I could not be more excited to share this book with you today! The entire process has been completely surreal to me, so here is a little bit about how it came to be.
It all came about after Sewing Summit 2011 where I finally met a bunch of my online friends in person. Elizabeth of Don't Call Me Betsy, who is such a sweetheart, invited me to join an online quilting bee she was organizing. I, of course, jumped at the opportunity! Things started off normal enough, when all of a sudden Lindsay Conner, the author and a bee member, proposed the idea of a bee book and the rest is history! We all needed to finalize our quilt designs and kick things into high gear!
I absolutely adore stars, and I had sketched out this triple star-in-a-star design for Pillow Talk Swap 6.
This is the pillow I made for that swap. I loved it and was so sad to send it away, so of course I wanted an entire quilt of it!
And here it is, in all its fancy styled photo shoot glory!
A huge thanks to Lindsay for all her hard work organizing everything and for doing such a wonderful job writing a great book. Go get your copy today! ---> Modern Bee 13 Quilts to Make with Friends

Congratulations!!! What a beautiful quilt...love your triple star-in-a-star design :) I'm making pillows for my house and my daughter's house (think your pattern will have to be on my to-do list)!!!
ReplyDeleteHello! We just set up our own quilting bee. Its called La Tela Viajera. It started as a Fabric Swapping group on Facebook and some of us wanted to do more than just swapping. So this is our first month. Our first project. And Im soooo excited! Im sure we will do blocks from this book! By the way, we are located in Spain!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on several things- aren't we all but mostly a Swoon for my youngest daughter.
ReplyDeleteI've never been in a bee! Your quilt is a wonderful design, and both the pillow and quilt are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a chance to be part of a bee yet but at least now I know what they are and how they work. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLoved having you in the bee and the book, Elena! Your quilt is fabulous, and it was so fun to "host" it for a few days at my house. :)
ReplyDeleteLoooove your pillow, and quilt!!! Loooove Stars too!
ReplyDeleteHave never belonged to a Bee....but sure sounds like fun! I am sorta new to quilty things...just made a 1/2 square Triangles quilt...and starting a D9P now.
I'm gathering fabric together to make an I Spy quilt as a gift for my daughter for Christmas. We are so short on money so this year's christmas will be 100% handmade with upcycled items and supplies we already own.

ReplyDeleteYour star block is absolutely gorgeous! I want that on my list of to-do's! Currently, I'm working on Christmas tree skirts for my 4 daughters. This is my first year as a quilter, so I'm hoping they'll turn out OK!! Thanks for the chance - fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteThe book is the bomb...thanks for the eye candy.

I love stars, too! Beautiful quilt! Love the swirly quilting!!
ReplyDeleteYour star quilt is beautiful! I will definitely have to make one of these. I belong to a weekly sit n sew. We sew during the morning on our own projects, mostly handwork, then we go out to lunch afterwards. Once a month we work on projects for charity and sew all day. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this book.
ReplyDeleteI belong to a guild and a small group. Is that a bee?
ReplyDeleteLovely star! I am in a guild but not in a bee; most of ours are full. That may change soon as today at guild meeting we discussed forming some new bees.
ReplyDeleteI love stars and your star in a star in a star is fabulous! The potential to use it with different colors and shades is incredible. So many possibilities!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a Halloween quilt for a friend, and putting together some Christmas projects.
ReplyDeleteI am working on a Basket for a swap. Thanks for the great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI am currently making a cat block for my "tinners" group. There are twelve of us, and in two more months, we all get to see our blocks.
ReplyDeleteI am quite new to quilting and have never participated in a Bee but it sounds like so much fun! Currently working on a baby quilt with flying geese.
ReplyDeleteI am in a bee group and we are planning on making row quilts coming year! My bee buddies, however, are in Florida and we keep up internet. Love this book!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on drawstring bags for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteLove the triple star. I am busy pulling out fabrics to make my son a new quilt for his apartment when he heads back to university next semester
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt! Looking forward to seeing more from this book.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteI've never been in a Bee but we're starting a local quilt group here so I'm looking forward to sewing with new friends!!
How exciting! That star quilt is lovely. The quilting on it really makes it special. I have been in one bee, which I started. We had a two year run, but all of the participants opted not to do a third year. It is called the Sunday morning quilts bee, and you can see some of our projects on flickr.
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt and book! Congratulations on being in this! My daughter and my best friend and I are quilters who get together - small group but fun! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am currently in three bees.. my guild bee where this is our second year of getting together and we are planning on continuing next year with the same group. Love that group so much. I am also in an online group, Simply Solids bee. I am having fun seeing what everyone comes up with using only solids. And the Harmony circle for do.Good stitches. Your quilt is gorgeous and I love the new book, on my wish list already!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to win a copy of this book! Thanks for the chance to win :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know of any quilting bees in our area other than one that meets on Monday mornings when I'm at work.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is stunning! I am new to sewing and quilting and love the idea of a bee. Seems like this book has great ideas for them. Love the idea of stitching and learning with friends.
ReplyDelete(majesticjenkinsATgmailDOTcom)
I love having quilting bees with my friends. We have a group that gets together and sews. It would be great to win the book and make a quilt together. The very first quilt I made was with a group of friends and about 4 of us made the same quilt. It was great.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to join a quilting bee, but hope to someday. I'm currently working on lap quilts because I just moved to northern Canada and it's freezing. We definitely need more quilts!
ReplyDeleteFirst your quilt is very pretty. I don't belong to a bee but it would be fun. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI have never been in a bee. I've learnt that you made the triple star quilt! I love that block
ReplyDeleteI haven't been in a bee yet but hope to. I am currently working on a Zoo It Yourself BOM.
ReplyDeleteNo, I've never been in a bee either, but sounds like a fun time with quilting friends! I'm working on my local quilt shop's block of the month right now, and that's about it - one block a month. I need to get busy on something else!
ReplyDeleteI belong to a bee through my guild. I had them make scrappy sprouts for my month....of course now I have 38 of 55 created so some work is still to be done! I've had this book on my Amazon wish list since before it was published, thanks for the chance :-)
ReplyDeleteI am working on a kaliedoscope quilt.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I'm working on a quilt for my sister. When that is done, I'll start on a southwestern quilt my husband wants to give to a friend of his. I've never participated in a bee, but I love the work you and others have done to create such wonderful projects for the rest of us. Your triple star is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteNever been in a bee before, however this book tour makes me want to join one right away! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI would very much like to have a copy of this book! I am currently working on an x and + quilt.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an awesome book!! I'm currently working on a lap quilt order!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your star-in-star block! I seem to love anything that has a star in the pattern! It looks like this book is going to be one I "need" and will have to give a bee a try sometime!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a tablerunner with some Julianan Horner fabric that I finally gave in & bought. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is just mu style! Fantastic block and quilt. Love how these groups can spark such great people to make beautiful things
ReplyDeleteI am not a member of a quilting bee. But I did participate in a "birthday block" once. I was actually very disappointed. The blocks (pattern + fabric) that I supplied the members were either not done, lost, or the seam allowance were so off I couldn't use them. Not sure I will try that again!!
ReplyDeleteI love your swap pillow, and that made me think - I don't need to make quilts from this book - each block would make a great pillow!! Thanks for the give away!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Stars! I currently sew on the Fractured Quilt and have a leader-ender project of scrapy tumblers going. Thanks for a chance!
ReplyDeleteI am currently working on lap quilts and table runners to give as Christmas gifts.
ReplyDeleteHI! CURRENTLY WORKING ON A BABY QUILT GIFT IN VARIOUS PINKS!
ReplyDeleteTHANKS FOR SHARING!
I've never been in a quilting bee. I'm new to quilting - learning mostly thru blogs and books! I can always use a new quilting book!
ReplyDeleteLove all these sites for ideas patterns and blogging
ReplyDeleteI've never done a quilting bee but I think it would be a lot of fun! I'm currently working on quilts for my cousin's baby and for my sister as well as a Christmas quilt along that I'll be keeping for myself!
ReplyDeleteOur quilting group is working on small hand work projects. We are making a quilt with all of them incorporated.
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky enough to be in a virtual quilting bee with my mom. Every few weeks I drive 45 mins out of the city and spend the day sewing with her, often working on bee blocks together. It's terrific.
ReplyDeleteWorking on a couple of Christmas quilts...I better get sewing! Thanks for the giveaway
ReplyDeleteI have never been involved in a quilting bee but they sound like fun! At the moment I am working on a car quilt. This book looks amazing - thanks for the chance!!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently in two online bees and am having a ball!
ReplyDeleteI quilt at church. The ladies meet twice a week. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI am working on some baby quilts and some purses. I do not belong to a bee but I quilt with my daughter.
ReplyDeleteI am currently making my daughter's first Halloween costume! There aren't many infant costume patterns so I am drafting a pattern and will hopefully be done by the end of the week! Thanks for hosting! :) mfrapp_83 [at] yahoo [dot] com
ReplyDeleteSomething I learned about this book is that the author shares tips and information on how to organize a quilting bee. This is something I'd love to learn to do!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of the quilts show that they are very doable!
ReplyDeleteI am working on a wall quilt. I love the idea of making a pillow with the designs.
ReplyDeleteI've never been part of a quilting bee so far. Currently I am working on my Garden Step quilt. Thanks for the great book giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on mini-quilts using the mini twister tool. Fun, fun, fun!
ReplyDeleteI just joined a local quilt guild, and I'm taking a class with then from Ra Nae Merril (spelling?) on paper pieced spiral blocks.
ReplyDeleteI've never participated in a quilting bee but it looks like fun. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your block! I've been working on a similar design using the Ohio star for a friend who's from Ohio. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletecongrats, your block is lovely. Right now I am sewing a lot of table runners for family and friends for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThis book reminds me of my grandmother's quilting bees.
ReplyDeleteI'm not in a quilting bee but I'm in a quilt-along. I'm working on a Nyan Cat quilt along. The book looks like it has a lot of fun quilts.
ReplyDeleteI'm sewing a pair of pants for my son right now. :) Thanks for a chance to win this fabulous looking book!
ReplyDeletebcgeates at gmail dot com
I can't wait to use this book and suggest a a bee for my sisters and mom to participate in. I am currently working on a block exchange, (would that be a BEE?) and made an Ohio Star Block last night.
ReplyDeleteGreat pillow and quilt, beautiful! Congratulations on having your quilt in the book! I'd love to have a copy and will be dropping hints for Christmas. I have not been in a Bee yet but would love to one day. Sewing at the moment has been Christmas gifts. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeletemissmoozie(at)gmail(dot)com
I LOVE this idea. Must start a quilting bee, it would be so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI love stars, such a great quilt! I would love to take part in a bee one day!
ReplyDeleteI am just beginning to learn about quilting so I am working on small projects but this book looks amazing

ReplyDeleteI'm making pillowcases and mug rugs for Christmas gifts. -- soparkaveataoldotcom

ReplyDeleteElena, I saw that you'd found my cute Triple Star block on Instagram and was excited to find you had a blog! I LOVE your quilt in the Bee book so much! I was thrilled to make the Christmas block for the queen bee this month and since my month is May, I'm picking the same block with your colors as inspiration. I want lots of yellows, greens, purples, oranges etc.....
