This is my very first quilt, completed a little over a year ago. On a whim, I decided to take a beginner's quilt class at my LQS, and conned a friend into joining me. When I saw one of the sample quilts for another class at orientation, I just knew I had to make something from that same fabric....it was Nicey Jane by Heather Bailey and I was instantly head over heels!

I went back to the store on a quieter day to pick out my fabrics. I knew it was Nicey Jane, and if you know me at all, it had to be pink. I auditioned a number of prints, using the teacher's tip of lining up the spines of the bolts together to see how they'd come together as the rails on the rail fence design. I settled on a combination, but had to break up all the color. It took a lot of convincing, but I went with this patterned cream color they had in the shop.
I can't tell you how thrilled I was when it was finally pieced together and I saw it all laid out. I did a major clappy-clap happy dance, along with a little jumping up and down.

This is one of my favorite prints from the whole line. So pink, pretty and girly. Totally me.
This is your first quilt? I don't believe you. I love how the back compliments the front. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt, I love the colors too. I have had great success with the Clover's wash out blue markers and I also used Crayola's washout markers. Can't wait to see your next quilt.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! So perfect and beautiful quilt and your first one! You have chosen so lovely colours and made a perfect work!
ReplyDeleteSee you in the festival!
Its beautiful. Very fresh and spring like!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pink and green quilt! I would never have known there was chaco liner under the thread. The blue water soluble pens work well but aren't efficient for doing a lot of marking.
ReplyDeleteI love Nicey Jane, too. I have made 2 quilts with it....but looking at this, maybe I need one more?? So pretty, and an amazing first quilt! As for the yellow...no tips to get it out, but I tend to use the fast fade ones that are blue/purple and they come out easily.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt. It is so pretty! Nice fabric...
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt with lovely colors and fabrics. Thankfully the yellow marker blends in well with the green. I don't know anything about marking. Not too noticeable, so that's good. Thanks for sharing and have a great day
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on completing your first quilt. You have done a wonderful job. Nicey Jane are beautiful fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great quilt. You did wonderfully and the marker is barely noticeable. Love it.
ReplyDeleteCute quilt! Pink is my favorite color too.
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt! You have a bright future!
ReplyDeletewhat a really great first quilt!! You should be really proud! You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing first quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Gotta love Nicey Jane too!
I use a karisma pencil for small markings but if its for quilting lines, go with painters tape.
Good luck!
This is such a lively fresh quilt. Love that it's your first. Great work!
ReplyDeleteThis is your FIRST quilt? Wow - you've got lots of fun and creativity ahead of you! It's beautiful! Darn shame about the marking....did you try Oxy Clean? Or Grandma's Own Spot Remover, you can get that at quilt shops. I always use a blue washout marking pen...I just spritz it with water when I'm done, and it goes away. It's not failed me yet!
ReplyDeleteLike Allie sad I would try the Grandma's Own Spot Remover--works very well for me!
ReplyDeleteI love that print on the back as well and have it in my stash. Pretty, pretty!!
You did a terrific job on her!
It's a beautiful quilt and I didn't even notice the yellow line until you said something! I had a quilt that didn't have an orange chalk wash out in some places. It was for my daughter so she didn't care but I've never used orange again. Now I wonder if it's just that part of the color wheel.
ReplyDeleteI stick to white chalk or a really light blue marker or sometimes I use a paper template and just tear it off when I'm done.
Gorgeous quilt and I never would have noticed the stray ink. Make sure you don't iron over disappearing ink marks because that will set them in.
ReplyDeleteI love how these colors work together. It is so pretty. You did a great job! : )
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is so cute! I gotta be honest, I'm not in love with nicey jane, but I love it in this quilt! I love that you put the dark green in the center...at first glance I didn't even know it was a fence rail! Sad about the chaco liner...maybe it will come out after a few washes...I once chalked a white quilt with blue miracle chalk and it took 3 washes to get it all out. You could try a lint brush next time before washing, usually that works pretty well to remove chalk too.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing first quilt! I love how you used the colors together. I've used hairspray to get some of the "disappearing" inks out... since I forgot and ironed over them before washing. I don't know if it's great for your quilt, since I'm no expert, but it does work. Just spray it on and use a toothbrush (that you won't be using in your mouth, of course) to rub it in, then wash.
ReplyDeletePink and green you've got me! Love your backing. Happy Stitching Chris
ReplyDeleteSuper pretty! I just found some Nicey Jane on sale last night... ordered a few half yards :) The large roses are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first quilt. Sure doesn't look like a beginner's quilt, you did a great job. Love pink & green and Nicey Jane is a wonderful fabric line. Super quilt!
ReplyDeleteBellissima!
ReplyDeleteCiao
